Edinburgh Hotels & Accommodations

Hotel is close enough to Edinburgh's main attractions, you could even get there walking 20-30 minutes from the hotel. Hotel has old facilities and the room has a smell. Also, the toilet wasn't working properly and I had to flush several times to make it work.

Stayed her for three nights October 2022 with the Scotland Rugby League team prior to the Rugby League World Cup. What a great find this hotel was. Spotlessly clean and so very comfortable. Bedrooms roomy and the beds as comfortable as you can get. The food was excellent, and they catered for our every need. The breakfasts were amazing and the service was beyond reproach . Special shout out to our servers Chez, Shannon and the boss Karen. Could not have been better. A massive thank you and a great start to our World Rugby League Cup campaign . Defo use this hotel again.

I booked a a night within the hotel on Halloween as we had booked a walking ghost tour within the city. It was a bit of a walk down to the Royal mile taking about 25 mins but as it was dry it was ok. The hotel was fantastic, the reception staff were lovely and very helpful. The entrance lobby was warm and clean, very inviting. All of the corridors were very well maintained, clean and beautifully decorated. Our room was very spacious with a queen sized bed, seating area and a good sized bathroom. The room again was nicely decorated and well equipped. Due to the restrictions the hotel restaurant was closed but we were allowed to order food into the hotel and the receptionist even pointed us in the direction of local shops. I would recommend the hotel and will most probably stay again.

We stayed here for 2 nights and arrived home today. Firstly all the staff were absolutely lovely!! We was so happy and to say they’re dog friendly really made our stay much better. The bedroom was spacious, the bed was huge, comfy & the shower was great! The cleanliness was 1000/1000 and we would definitely be back!! We didn’t have breakfast but the prices are cheap & I really recommend staying here. My dog loved it, I did tell the staff not to tidy my room and when we come back they had (which I felt bad about because it was a mess & our dog had stuffing everywhere from his teddy) but Thankyou for cleaning it anyways. Fresh clean plenty of towels, the only thing I would say is please add proper toiletries e g shampoo and conditioner as my hair did not like the shampoo. All in all it’s in the city centre, the windows open and you get a huge fan in your room!! The tv works, the WiFi works & it’s next door to tesco express, sainsburys & pubs!

Visiting Edinburgh Castle of Light, I decided to stay overnight. Room (15) had everything needed; a comfortable bed, hot shower, a hospitality tray and clean towels. I will definitely stay here again.

This password is common to open the reception room on the first floor and the room. It is very convenient to enter and exit without having to bring the room card; our room is on the third floor, and it is a bit inconvenient to carry luggage up , thanks to the help of the hotel administrator; the room is newly renovated, everything is clean and tidy, and the room temperature can be adjusted; there is a small kitchen at the entrance, which basically meets the needs of self-cooking, thanks to this kitchen, the problem of eating is solved ( Edinburgh really has too few food options); we are a family of four staying here this time, in addition to the 1.8-meter bed in the room, the sofa in the living room is pulled out to a double bed, which is quite comfortable; the bathroom has a lot of space . It’s very cold in Edinburgh in the morning and evening, so remember to bring thick clothes. 3. If you need to go from Edinburgh to London (or if you need to travel around various cities in the UK), it is recommended to buy a train pass in advance (two days in advance on Ctrip, and one day in advance on Taobao) to buy a train pass, which is cheaper than buying a single trip A lot, our family of four traveled from Edinburgh to London, went to Cambridge and Oxford in London, bought a three-day pass, and spent a total of less than 4,000 yuan (one way from Edinburgh to London for four people) It costs 3,000 yuan), and the pass can be used on any operating company’s trains on any train, which is very convenient.

This weekend we spent a couple of days in Edinburgh and used this location courtesy of our daughter and her partner. The location is ideal for moving around Edinburgh and enjoying the various sites etc. The room was in good order, however the cleaners had not checked the pull down bed which was disgusting however, this was quickly rectified and we got offered a free breakfast as compensation. Point to note, don't think the room you have booked has the ideal views as shown on the web-site as we were on the third floor looking on to an internal roof! Breakfast was ok, staff were attentive and although they got our order completely wrong it was again quickly rectified. Worth a stay, however can be pricey for what it is!

Stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday weekend in August 2022. I'm guessing the price was high because of the fringe and it being a bank holiday weekend. The hotel was bright and breezy. no tea making facilities in the room. No hair dryer, limited storage, no draws. There was tea making facilities in the reception that were free and always available. Breakfast at the hotel was continental and £7.50 each. Quite reasonable for the offering of cereal, pastries, yoghurts, juice, ham and cheeses. Nice location opposite the tram station.

Very good breakfast with variety. Friendly staff member left us a good impression too. The location is perfect connecting different sightseeing spots. Cozy bed helped us get so nice sleep!! Will definitely stay here again if we visit Edinburgh next time!❤️

I would have preferred to write my hopefully constructive comments to a member of the senior management at the Dakota Hotels organisation, particularly as they are in the growth stages. However, and significantly, having failed in all my attempts to research an appropriate member of the senior management team, which included writing ‘twice’ to the Dakota Hotel Edinburgh reception (no response), spending a lot of time researching Linkedin and perusing the government website ‘companies house’, not one member of the senior management team appeared. Consequently, I have penned my comments to trip advisor. Location The Dakota Hotel Edinburgh is ideally located to the airport and a super wedding venue, Dunbas Castle. Initially, one is either impressed by the modern looking black edifice or find it depressing, a personal choice. Apparently, the theme of the hotel is one of a sombre mood, where an abundance of light is shunned. On the first evening we held a small champagne reception in a room shared by another wedding party. A gentleman from the other party asked a member of staff who came to close the blinds and put us all in near darkness if it was possible to leave them open. The staff member said it was against hotel policy but would ask the duty manager. Within a few minutes the duty manager appeared and brusquely closed the shutters in a most defiant manner, clearly illustrating the mood of the management! Reception Staff The first impression of a hotel is often made when checking in. Alas, of all the reception staff I encountered during our 4 day stay, I was appalled by the lack of friendly interaction. Indeed, on many occasions the extremely abrupt and curt conversations were almost offensive. Fortunately, there was one female manager named Megan who is most definitely an excellent example for the hospitality industry, as she was polite, attentive, and most efficient. Megan was indeed a redeeming feature of this hotel. At the initial check-in we were informed that we would be entitled to a glass of champagne and two Hors d'oeuvres each evening. This only occurred on two of our 4 evenings! When my daughter arrived from America, she was not told that breakfast was included in her room nor that she was entitled to a complementary glass of champagne and two Hors d'oeuvres each evening of her stay. As my daughter’s stay combined business with pleasure, she had some very important business and video calls to make but was frequently prevented from accomplishing her work as the hotel WiFi was not robust enough. In response to her complaints, she was offered 2 further alternative access points, but neither was sufficient to achieve a strong enough connection. Dining Room The dining room (brasserie Grill) was appropriately illuminated and the staff in the main were efficient and very polite.
