Bo Yin Hotel (Li River Secluded Hotel) Our visit to Guilin was to spend time with my wife’s large family and we twice stayed at the Li River Secluded hotel, for a total of 7 nights. Our expectations of a hotel experience are high, so we avoid using American chain hotels when possible. The Li River Secluded hotel more than met those expectations by combining exceptional customer service with a laid back, but luxurious guest experience. On arrival, we were offered a room upgrade. The upgrade accommodation was located on the ground floor, so this did not appeal to us until we were shown the room … the suite was spacious and tastefully furnished with a Zen motif that included a ceremonial tea table. Both my wife and I practice daily yoga, so the ample floor space immediately appealed to us. A room-width picture window featured a view of the Li River Lake and its pair of pagodas. Remote-controlled drapes and shears sound-proofed and eliminated light from the room when closed. A buffet daily breakfast on the 8th (top) floor was included and featured a good selection of both Chinese and Western options. We had family commitments that prevented us from eating dinner at the restaurant, but my wife hosted an afternoon tea session in the restaurant for some of her friends and the tea and pastries were excellent. In addition, fresh fruit was placed in the room every day, and the room refrigerator was refreshed daily with water, sodas, and snacks. The hotel was generally maintained in pristine condition and effected the highest standards of cleanliness. This applied to all the facilities apart from a small exercise room on the 5th floor. This consisted of a set of barbells (no bench), a fixed weight station (functional), and 2 treadmills, neither of which functioned properly … that said, I did use the weight station and the patio outside of the exercise room for yoga on a couple warmer days. There was also a guest laundry on the 5th floor which my wife used on one occasion. The customer service attitude in Chinese hotels is generally an improvement on what we are accustomed to in North America, but at the Bo Yin Hotel it’s exceptional. This means that English language speakers (I’m Canadian and my wife is Chinese by birth) would experience no problem in addressing any of the front desk, maid, or restaurant personnel. For those who prefer to order take-out food, a robotic delivery service is used, a feature that tends to fascinate any child you might be traveling with. Sean Bennett

Room: 1017 (king bed & bunk bed); duration of stay: 4 nights. Family of 4 (including 6 & 11y.o. boys) Absolutely wonderful surprise to walk into this room and see how spacious it was along with many fun features which included kids’ bunk bed and slide down one side, playhouse tent, play area with small kids table and chairs and small rocking horse. A large kids play area (open 10am – 10pm) on the same floor (level 10) along with a very basic gym i.e. 1 treadmill, a couple of indoor bikes. Most guests on level 10 kept our doors open and kids could freely roam between their hotel room and play area. There is no safe in the room although the hotel was safe and secure (cameras on each floor). Our valuables were locked in our suitcase when not in the room. A nice touch of earplugs by our bedside (although we didn’t need them) and heated/electric toilet. Both kids and adults enjoyed the room and hotel. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. Limited English and we communicated via translate app and my 11y.o. son who speaks intermediate Chinese. Use of sunscreen and other items available for free from reception counter. The hotel is very clean. Free laundry (front loading machines and a hanging rack heated dryer) including laundry powder (located on level 8). The pool was nice however given we visited late October, a bit on the cool side with the changing season. The breakfast spread was very good with a mixture of fruit, bread, dim sum, eggs (boiled, fried, scrambled), bacon, Chinese breakfast, tea, coffee, etc. 3 items, including noodles, on the breakfast menu to obtain freshly cooked. We also ate at the restaurant for dinner twice and both meals were fantastic (we recommend the T-bone steak!). Ordering is via scanning a QR code. Limited alcoholic spirits on the dinner menu. We booked a boat tour via the hotel tour desk using the translator app. The service was good and easy. We opted to get a taxi to the boat (rather than the group van which left an hour earlier and cost RMB10pp) however upon arriving to the boat ticket office outside the boats they tried to redirect us to a different location. We communicated with the hotel tour desk via WeChat which was quick and very helpful as they sent photos of the desk we needed to be at (which was a table next door to the ticket office). The process was smooth and easy. The use of the spa is 50% off for hotel guests and from memory it opens at 3pm. Suggest to book ahead as the spa does book out quickly. The location is good; a walk away from Guilin Pagoda Hill, Elephant hill (10 min walk), Starbucks on the opposite side of the road less than 10 minute walk away, 2 KFC’s, food, taxi stand to the left of the hotel, night market, shopping, etc. Great features of this hotel: • Fun hotel and fantastic for kids • Very clean and safe • Good location • Good breakfast spread, lunch/dinner options • Taxi stand less than 1 minute walk For awareness: • SYYF has 2 locations. Taxi’s kept dropping us back at the other location. Therefore take the address in Chinese and make sure the taxi drivers read the address (not just look at the logo)

The decoration of the room is simple and generous, mainly very clean, the bedding is very clean, and the whole room is relatively clean. The mattress is soft, daily necessities washing supplies furniture, kitchen supplies are relatively complete. The homeowner also carefully prepares a sewing kit, which can be added to the chair on the squat toilet. The electrical appliances are also very complete, washing machine, TV, hair dryer, water heater, range hood, WIFI, air conditioning function is intact and available, air conditioning heating and cooling. The bathroom is equipped with warm lights and electric wind. The environment is quiet and there is an elevator. The shopping and transportation around the downstairs are convenient, and it is also close to several attractions in the city. It is also very convenient to share electric cars and stroll around. The landlord answered the questions promptly. The last few photos let you refer to the current situation of the room:

Stayed here for the second time! The first time I saw pictures of the rooftop on the Internet, I came to the rooftop. The place is a bit hidden, but Linjiang, quiet, arrived late at night, just walked downstairs, I heard the boss say hello upstairs, the fear of facing the dark corridor disappeared instantly, when I came, I didn't enter the hostel and passed the flowers and plants in the corridor of the platform. I already liked it here! The boss was warm and patiently led the visits to the floors, and finally chose the 3rd floor. I like this open view. When I don’t go out, I will sit here and drink tea, be in a daze, look at the mountains in the distance, the rivers nearby, the jasmine, green onion lotus and various flowers and plants in front of me. I will say hello to the 27 (the boss’s cat) who came back from the wall next door. In the evening, I usually come back before sunset, stay on the roof platform, and the sunset will accompany me for dinner! I like the shade downstairs, no need to bask in the sun, go out along the shade, go to Wuhu in one direction, go to the Taohua River and the Lijiang River in one direction, I like to ride a bicycle and feel the wind passing through the skin to bring a cool! Going out, there are scenery everywhere, suitable for long-term stay. The living room downstairs often hears the boss patiently giving the guests travel guide consultation, and the guests share with each other. Occasionally, someone will form a bureau for A meals. Even if you live here alone, it won't be too boring! If you want to find food or play and travel guides, you can consult the boss, and you can always get patient, detailed responses and guidance.

The hotel is very good in every aspect. It is located in the pedestrian street. The rooms and public areas are very clean. There is a tea table in the lobby. In cooler weather, you can drink more Luo Han Guo tea brewed in the lobby. The breakfast is nutritious and the rice noodles are freshly made. If you come to Guilin at this time, you must go to the Longji Rice Terraces. The golden rice terraces are very spectacular. This trip to Guilin was not a surprise. It was awesome.

Great hotel in a great location. Walkable from the Guilin (south) train station (although you can ride 1 stop on the bus to cut the distance in half) and on the #100 route to Guilinbei (north) train station. Nicely situated for a walk along the river and the elephant hill park, and easy to catch the #3 bus to Reed Flute Cave. It's about 1km walk from the rest of the town, although if you are feeling lazy there are several bus routes into town. The hotel organised my ticket and transfer to the Guling->Yangshuo river cruise. There's no lift in the hotel, which could be an issue for some, but the reception staff insisted on carrying my suitcase up the stairs for me. There's a free washing machine and clothes drying area on the roof of one of the two buildings, with detergent provided. One of the receptionists spoke great English which was very useful booking the cruise, but also was happy to let me practice chatting in Mandarin with him.

The landlord is very good. Call us in advance to tell us the specific location of the hotel, the distance and cost of taking a taxi or taking a bus. After check-in, we also send a message to inform us of the surrounding dining and attractions. It is recommended to play the route and help book tickets. The real experience is really good according to the landlord's suggestion. The hotel is clean and the location is good. You can watch the beautiful scenery of the two rivers and four lakes on foot.
