Sabie River Bush Lodge

All the meals were TERRIBLE. We did a guided drive of 2000 ZAR for two of us was badly done- guide kept stalling the car and didn’t speak English well. Location is okay, nice views of river and hippos. Very basic in many ways.

8 people for a week over Xmas, loved the view on the river bank. But when you remember the names of mostly all the staff on the property you know how amazing they were! They arranged a pvt bbq for my family, everything is no trouble, even when the weather wasn’t the best. This is their appeal and can’t recommend this place more and will certainly be back

Quick weekend away. Managed to catch the big five, 2 of which we saw from our tent veranda coming down for a drink! Loved the pool and deck , and the views. Food was decent, service great. Game drive super!

The view on the deck is to die for, especially early mornings and at night watching hippos. I loved the personal service given by the waiters and dinner was superb. Ideal for making trips into the KNP due to its proximity. The place is easy to find, almost next to the main road.

It was for my sisters and me the perfect break after the Kruger before going home. Would have been nice for 2 nights. The staff was amazing and the food good .Food and drinjs were decent priced. Overall a very pleasant experience. Thank you

The road towards the lodge from Hazyview was a little dodgy, but we were pleasantly surprised once we arrived. The most impressive thing was how friendly, helpful and attentive the staff were. They even washed our dusty car and stored our snacks in the kitchen fridge overnight. It was amazing being able to float in the pool and see and hear the hippos just a hundred meters away in the Sabie river. The meals were delicious and generous. And it’s so close to the Kruger gate! Excellent value overall compared to the accommodation offered inside Kruger that is overpriced and dated.

The staff is wonderful here, the views of the river (and sometimes hippos and kudu) are nice, the food is decent. They were able to accommodate us on vegetarian meals. The room and beds are comfortable. The parking lot is dirt/clay so may get muddy after a rain. And it's a fairly short drive to Kruger Gate. The safaris in the park that they can arrange are quite expensive and we should have passed, as we saw so much more on our own self-drive the next day.

A small resort sitting right by the river- the staff were very friendly and helpful- and because their Wi-Fi was down the receptionist allowed me to use his phone as a hotspot which was very helpful. My wife and I being vegetarian were very pleased with the meal they provided-- the chef went out of his way to do a nice vegetarian option for us. The restaurant overlooks the river- and it was lovely to see hippos playing in the water at night

Amazing place on the river where you can watch the hippos. Close to Kruger entrance gate. We stayed in one of the bush tents which was fantastic. Not your typical camping tent at all! It was nicely designed and decorated and included creature comforts such as air-con and a proper bathroom. The bed was huge and really comfortable. We loved the open restaurant and upstairs bar area so you could look out over the river. The deck area and pool were a highlight - we loved relaxing here and watching the hippos with a drink in the afternoon after a morning safari. We saw lots of hippos and we got lucky one evening when some elephants visited. We did a package which included our safaris and meals. The full day and morning safaris are run by Sabie River Bush Lodge using their safari vehicle. (You can self-drive in Kruger but you're not as likely to see the lions/leopards/rhinos etc as the guides talk and inform each other where they've recently spotted animals so you have a much better chance of finding them). Our driver/guide was Lion and not only was he a 'lion whisperer', he managed to find us the Big 5, including the elusive leopard!! The sunset safari was run by a different company and they used a much bigger vehicle (modified trailer/bus type thing) for 20+ people so the views aren't as good. We managed to get lucky and see a leopard on this safari too but the smaller safaris run by Sabie River Bush Lodge were much better overall. The food was good and all the staff were super friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money! This place is nicely designed in a lovely setting over looking Kruger National Park with river views, hippos, and everything you need without the luxury price tag of other places nearby. We didn't want to leave! Highly recommend this place. Just book it; you won't be disappointed!
