Our last night of an eight day railroad trip was spent at the Yanqi Mountain Residence. We really enjoyed staying in a real Yunnan village and the surrounding countryside looked beautiful in the winter sunshine. Our rooms had an authentic village atmosphere, but were equally clean, well presented and well equipped. Breakfast was simple and delicious, and it was also possible to purchase a coffee (Americano or Latte) from the cafe at reception. We enjoyed a delicious meal of noodles and fresh vegetables at a nearby village restaurant. Everyone that we met was extremely friendly, including the kindly mother of the owner! Our children made friends with both local children and fellow tourists - and enjoyed the pool table in the communal area. Yanqi Mountain Residence is also situated extremely near to the Kunming Airport (although we never heard an aeroplane!) and the staff generously arranged a car to take us to the airport for our return to Shanghai.

The rice noodles are delicious. The hotel is about one kilometer away from the Longmen Grottoes in the Xishan Scenic Area next to Dianchi Lake. You can see the panoramic view of Dianchi Lake by cable car. Not very good place is the bathroom is relatively poor, the bathroom is not ventilated, the smell is not scattered, and there is a fixed big lotus head, no shower, bath towels are also very old, cleaning supplies are also relatively poor. This hotel it’s just amazing. It’s not far from the airport so we stayed there cause we had a flight next morning. And they can pick you up from the airport which is cool. So the food was Chinese as always but it was homemade and so tasty. The room is super clean and you feel like on Bali. And workers of the hotel are super nice. Not far from the hotel they gave sunflower field and you can take awesome pics there. I’m absolutely satisfied with my stay there and hope you can visit this place one day too.
