On arrival, the place is clean, well-staffed and welcoming. The standard of cleanliness in the rooms and hotel in general is very good. Rooms are large, comfortable and it's well-positioned in the centre of Liverpool so all is good....until.... Did I mention it's well-positioned in the centre of Liverpool? Well you're not the only one who knows that so it's a magnet for stag-parties, hen-dos and general rowdy people. The corridors are alive ALL through the night with boisterous young people determined to keep their parties going no matter the time or location. That's not just other rooms on your floor by the way. You'll get this from rooms above and below you as well. I went out on the corridor to ask politely if the noise could be lowered only to find the rooms on either side and across the hall were all closed and silent and there was no-one to be seen meaning the racket(s) going on - several simultaneously - were from further afield it was that loud. About 4-30 am, the noise went down significantly only to crank to crank up again at 6.30 by two girls yelling so they could be heard from all that distance away whether the people they were addressing their question to were going out or coming home. Two lads boasted VERY LOUDLY that this was in fact, the end of their night. Complaints to the staff about this had them apologising and assuring us that they'd sent up security several times to quiten the noise but it was coming from so many places and always moving from one room to another with slamming doors and banging feet up and down corridors while screaming loudly as they went. This meant there wasn't one single outbreak of boisterousness to be able to deal with. We were also assured we'd receive a discount to somehow compensate us for our discomfort but - of course- no discount was ever sent!

Ropewalks Hotel, BW Premier Collection

City Centre Liverpool|0.94km from downtown
My husband and I visited this weekend for our anniversary. We booked this hotel through secret escapes as it was central, had a 4 star rating and having not been to Liverpool before, we thought it the best location to properly explore the city centre. As soon as we started to walk down Seel street, I knew we'd made a mistake. At around 2pm it was already full of drunk students and we could hear music pounding. Unfortunately it did not get any better when approaching the hotel. When we walked into reception to check in, the music was so loud I could not hear what the receptionist was saying. I made a comment about the music being loud but the receptionist just laughed it off - i assume this is something they hear daily. We went to our room which was actually really nice, a bit basic, but more than ok for one night. Unfortunately the hotel was having problems with the room keycards so we could not get into the room ourselves, but there was always someone on reception to take us up to our room and let us in. After exploring the city centre and having a fab meal at Bem Brasil, we came back to our room around 10pm. If we thought the music was loud before, it was nothing compared to the volume now all the other bars and nightclubs opposite the hotel were open, as well as the bar below the rooms. Don't get me wrong, I like a good night out as well as the next person, i'm not boring by any means, however it felt like we were staying in a nightclub and when you're on a romantic weekend away this is not what you want. Despite the windows being closed (in the hottest room I've ever experienced!) and my husband and I both wearing earplugs, we could not sleep due to the music, which did not stop until 5am! And just when I thought I could get a few hours in before checking out, the bin lorries arrived so for the next couple of hours all we heard was glass bottles being transferred to the bin lorries. In the end we decided to just get up and head for breakfast. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice (cooked full English and continental) however for some reason the hotel thought it appropriate to have dance music playing, albeit quieter than the night before but still, at breakfast?? In the end we checked out around 9am instead of 12 noon - now I know why there is such a late checkout time! When asked about our stay I told them it was the loudest hotel I had ever stayed in and the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said 'its a city centre'. Erm no, city centre or not, the volume was completely out of control. I've stayed in plenty of city centre hotels and never experienced this kind of noise level. Don't get me wrong, this hotel is perfect for stag and hen parties who stroll in when the nightclubs and bars close, but for a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary (at a hotel booked on secret escapes of all places!) this is not the place. The hotel really do need to make guests aware of the level of noise, it isn't just mildly irritant, it is

Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village

we came back from an event approx midnight. asked for 2 glasses of red wine at the bar. staff member offered us a number of bottles . we picked one, she opened it. then the duty manager turned up and said that this wine wasn’t available by the glass only by the bottle. ( which was £55) we explained that we were offered this option by the bar staff but he still said no. bar staff then had to put the cork back in the bottle. we asked how they could do that when it could only bought by the bottle and no customer would buy a bottle of wine that had already been opened. no change. out of courtesy to the bar staff we agreed to pick another red wine. turns out they only had one glass left of that one and no spares . therefore we ended up with our 3rd choice option. this all took 45mns from order to serve. some of the worst hotel service we have ever had.

The location is very good, just beside the pier, walking to the tate museum, the Liverpool Museum and the pier, the view from the window is also very attractive. You can watch the day and night at the pier. The hotel has some connection with the Titanic. The door of each room is a sense of cabin.

We picked this hotel primarily for its location as it's in the city centre and very close to my daughters university accommodation. Our room was clean and tidy and had everything except a fridge and any staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable and rooms were quiet so we had a few good nights sleep. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food but the location is in the heart of the city and there are lots of bars and restaurants nearby. I also liked that there was a little desk beside the reception with extra milk, teabags etc so you could grab some extra if you needed them throughout the day.
The Castle Collection - 25 Castle Street

My husband and I stayed at 42 Castle Street in September 2022 and liked it so much that we booked with Castle Collection again. This time (May 2023 ) we stayed in 25 Castle Street (flat 12) and it was so grotty that we had to go out and buy cleaning products from Tesco’s (they only supply dishwashing liquid). It was actually an adventure of discovery. There was dried up vomit on the lounge suite, (nice and crunchy) the bed head and wall to the left of it had some liquid drip stuff on it ( came off with disinfectant wipes), the walls were filthy, (more liquid drips, so I can only assume that a lot of drinking/ puking must have taken place. The skirting boards had stains and black grime, ( sadly, they defeated me and my myriad of cleaning products) the cushions had liquid/vomit stains and the carpet was so gross I didn’t want to imagine what had gone on in the past. As for the view… well, the windows had bird crap all over them from the derelict building next door, which has more than its share of pigeons and their nests. If you leave any window open to let fresh air in, (it’s stuffy) the pigeons try to get in. They do tend to be somewhat noisy, but ear plugs fixed that. You get the odd seagull crapping, too, but I guess they decided that there’s no need to try and clean the windows, as there’s nothing to see anyway. I realise that that the building and birds are not Castle Collection’s fault, but they’re advertising ‘luxury apartments‘ and to be honest, this apartment made me feel uncomfortable and because it was so grotty, I avoided it as much as possible, and I was there for eight nights! Anyway, I managed to clean the vomit off the lounge and the drips off the bed head and wall, but the living room wall and skirting boards defeated me as they were too ingrained. Okay, it was straight after Eurovision, but really? I am a frequent visitor to Liverpool, as am originally from Liverpool and live in Australia, and I thought the Castle Collection was a great place - umm, no. So disheartening. Anyway, the positives - great location and communication regarding access etc was really efficient and friendly. Really easy access. Number 42 Castle St has a lift, but number 25 doesn’t. Car park nearby with discount rates.

I booked this hotel for a little break for me & my husband (we are both middle aged). I picked it for location & price. They were both spot on, but I didn't check that it was right in the heart of club land, so we didn't get any sleep from the noise from bars, clubs & party goers. So great for the money, if you want to be out there partying, but not so good when you're older. Upon check out, I mentioned the noise to the receptionist, who told me that I should have requested a quieter room, which I would have done, had I have know that they had them! So upon reflection a) the hotel needs to point out that there are quiet rooms available & b) I'll definately be doing a thorough research on any future city break hotels.
