Very disappointed with a Valentines High Tea I attended with 7 friends. The food, and service were disappointing & very inadequate. The high tea was way below many others I’ve experienced in WA and overseas. Drinks were expensive and our water glasses weren’t refreshed. The staff were pleasant apart from a male who didn’t like our querying the bill. I was so looking forward to this visit after not going for a few years and had hoped to book again in the near future for lunch or dinner. However I will not be returning to Cape Lodge as there are so many other lovely options with good to great food and service in the region.

Cape Lodge appears in The Luxury Lodges of Australia compilation. It has no place there until the accommodation has undergone a major refurbishment. The setting is beautiful and the staff delightful but, I think, are embarrassed by what they have to offer guests. I will review the restaurant separately. Back to the room. Tired with cheap fitted furniture. Several light bulbs not working and not replaced. Ill fitting roller blinds that allowed the very bright car park light directly into my face when in bed. Fridge door didn’t close properly. Although clean the room needed a deep clean. Cheap motel chic. I tried sleeping with a face mask on 2nd night but enough was enough. Fran, one of the lovely long suffering staff, helped by letting us sleep in another, much larger suite overlooking the lake. Better night’s sleep but pleased to leave. The last night accommodation charge was removed from the bill.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Lake View Suite. Check in was friendly and efficient, and the charm of the architecture and the grounds of the estate were immediately evident. A buggy took us and our luggage to the suite a couple of hundred metres from the main building; our room was up a steep flight of stairs. The room itself was delightful; super-king bed, good linens and towels, comfortable sitting area, large bathroom with walk-in rain shower, jacuzzi, freshly ground coffee and cafetière, fridge, and a very pleasant veranda with a table and chairs. We saw no evidence of furnishing tiredness reported by other reviewers but it is true to say that the room was very comfortable rather than spectacular. Which of course is exactly right for a lodge hotel of this type. Breakfast was excellent, part buffet and part cooked to order. We had opted for the Dinner Bed & Breakfast option and the dinner menu was very short and didn’t change for the three days, which could have been limiting especially for vegetarians, but the chef offered us options on the second and third evenings which perfectly resolved the problem. The quality of the food was excellent and the restaurant overlooks the lake and enjoys spectacular sunsets when the sky is clear. The hotel is situated deep in the country and it is difficult to conceive how you could make the most of the attractions of the area - rugged coasts, caves, quaint little towns - without a car. In summary Cape Lodge is a classical example of the country lodge hotel, and it does its job very well.

Beautiful room and location. Lovely professional restaurant staff. Food excellent. Pool area quiet and stunning. Gym could have better machines - there's only two and they are not user friendly! Tristan the Manager is superb at what he does and has a great pride in his hotel for good reason.

Thank you to Tristan and the team at Cape Lodge. What a wonderful experience. The rooms and beds were fantastic. The facilities faultless, the staff and restaurant were excellent. Lots of little things done very well - the tea and coffee in the gust lounge, fridge full of complementary drinks at the pool, welcome drinks at the restaurant and very helpful staff. Fully booked on Sat and Sun but it is so well laid out, we felt like the only guests! Put this on your wish list.

Our last stay at Cape Lodge was 6 years ago for my 74th birthday,it was just brilliant and we were looking forward to another treat. How disappointed were we.The whole place seems to have been run down, the furniture in our room looked like something out of a second hand shop,I wouldn't have it my house! The bathroom looks as if it has been renovated, very nice, very modern.Food was a fixed menu for both our days there, the offerings were not very nice but the staff were great and doing a good job.We always told our friends "the food is to die for"but not on this occasion unfortunately. My wife and I paid $1629 for the two nights for a special package(via Luxury Escapes) and feel we paid too much and will never stay at Cape Lodge again unless there is a major improvement, not only to the buildings(they look as if they need a coat of paint) but also to the restaurant. Our room cleaning service was also below par,my wife reported there was dust in the room in one corner and there was a spider lodging in the toilet. It pains me to say it but you've lost us Cape Lodge,Crown Towers is much better value. We had a fabulous experience, the dinner was delicious and wine recommendations from the sommelier were superb. Afternoon tea was luxurious as well! Our room was lovely and all the staff were great. We will be back.

We stayed for 2 nights with a dinner package for both nights. Accommodation in the Garden View room was good. Previous reviews suggested the rooms were outdated which I can't agree with. They were well furnished and on point. Dinner in the restaurant was perfect both nights. We had the 4 course with matching wines. The food was spot on. The Cape Lodge Sauv Blanc and Shiraz were nice. Is it worth $1100 a night per couple? I'm not 100% convinced but I can say we left contented.

We had a two night stay at the Cape Lodge, which turned out to be generally to our satisfaction. Very friendly staff throughout. Nice spacious room and bathroom. We had dinner on the first evening in the restaurant. Fine four course meal with matching wines (although for the price, we have had better). Breakfast was also very good, served in a nice setting. We would criticise two things: the fixtures in the room and bathroom are getting on a bit and perhaps no longer on the level expected in a luxury establishment. The restaurant does not offer an à la carte menu, so if you do not want to eat the four course menu again, you either have to drive quite far to a restaurant or order in-room dining, which consists of a cold platter of meat and cheese. Fine for us, together with the complimentary bottle of wine.
