For anyone interested in birds, peace and quiet, the real Jamaica away from resorts, and great beaches, Hotel Mocking Bird Hill is the place to be. I went with my 7-year-old daughter and we had the trip of a lifetime together. Getting there is not for the faint of heart (do _not_ attempt to drive there at night from Montego Bay or Kingston!) because the roads are not great quality and map apps can lead to some confusing wrong turns. That said, the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and can be enjoyed from four levels as well as on the grounds of the 7-acre gardens (where I saw half of Jamaica's endemic bird species). The breakfasts and dinners offered by Wilkes Seafood are delicious, healthy, and veggie friendly. The Blue Mountains (great birding, coffee, views) and the John Crow Mountains (great birding) are an easy drive away. And Boston Beach, Winnifred Beach, Frenchman's Cove, and other fantastic spots for swimming, lounging, water activities, and trying local foods abound. Seeing the sun set over the Blue Mountains or watching a rainbow form into the Caribbean from the canopy seating are experiences too beautiful for words to describe.
