The hotel is in nice location with friendly staff. The décor is a little worn but the room and hotel are clean. Overall it was good value and I had a nice stay.

Overall it has been very enjoyable. It's only few seconds to the beach and lovely coastal walk. Staff are excellent and very helpful. However the bathrooms need upgrading although quite comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.

Starting positive: beautiful afternoon for a friend's birthday surprise. Fabulous array of cakes and sandwiches. Scones were still warm! 2 large pots of tea and we had also splashed out on prosecco. Our Spanish waiter was very friendly and amiable. Negatives: toilets were disgusting. 3 were blocked, the bins were overflowing, the smell was pretty rank and the decor was from the 70s! Our afternoon tea was served in the bar with the tv turned on (rugby), which made for a very bizarre (and noisy) experience - we had expected it to be served in the restaurant. Unfortunately, as flavoursome as the sandwiches were (a variety of 3), they had obviously been made a lot earlier, as the bread had started to dry out (this did not take away from theur tastiness). Parking is seriously limited, both in way of hotel and side-road parking. We managed to get a spot on the 'drive', but when we were ready to leave, we were blocked in by another guest. Will we go back? Definitely no. Would we recommend it? Definitely no!!

Came here for a PM meal - food was OK and staff very pleasant but realised on leaving that the reason the main hotel was closed was under a long-term contract for the Home Office. Will not be returning!

Had a lovely afternoon tea with oh. Very friendly staff. Food was lovely and fresh. We had smoked salmon, coronation chicken and cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches. 2 lovely scones with loads of clotted cream and jam. 2 choux buns, 2 large slices of Victoria sandwiches and 2 mini meringues. Sea view thrown in too. Definitely worth a visit

Royal Beach Hotel Portsmouth 841745635 Be aware that if you are coming here for a meal or afternoon tea you now have to enter via a side entrance as half of the main hotel is being converted to apartments and much of the remaining parts are currently closed for visitors. So the actual venue is now in a semi basement area which is pleasant and quiet but with no views. Same excellent quality of afternoon tea and service as before.

We’re staying in room 305 which has the best view of the sea with two beautiful large windows. We booked this stay months ago, and requested this particular room due to previous great reviews. On arrival, we were informed that we are being moved due to a maintenance issue. We have travelled almost 3 hours and looked forward to this for such a long time and we’re so disappointed when the staff informed us that room was not available. We’ve had no notice to say we are being moved and got really upset. Eventually, the maintenance issue was resolved and we were allowed to stay in this room. However, it kind of spoilt our experience, as afterwards, we felt like the “trouble makers”. The electric car charger in the car park wasn’t working so we were unable to charge our car which was a little bit annoying. However, plenty of charging points at Gunwarf Quays. The electric car parking spaces in the hotel car park are also very small; our Tesla almost took up 2 spaces, so be mindful. The room is lovely and kitted out with all the things you might need, I especially appreciated the iron and ironing board, as well as a decent hair dryer. One of the windows doesn’t shut, and a heater was provided but wasn’t needed; the room temperature was spot on. We have paid for breakfast to be included in our stay, but it was a really awkward experience as although the hostess and the rest of the team were polite, we felt really unwelcome. We ended up going out for all of our meals after that. The cooked breakfast was really delicious, though. So all in all, the room and view was good, but the way we were made to feel has really spoilt our experience. So if you’re staying for the view and plan to be out in the day, I’d recommend it. But after our experience, I don’t think we will be back.

Hotel looks very old however location is a winter here ! I was allocated to the 1st floor which I am not a big fan of however staying only for 1 night I have not complained or asked for room change. Pete was so welcoming on the arrival and even though hr was so busy he made the effort to store my luggage and booked me a taxi witg a friendly manner. There was another lad at the reception who was also very friendly and efficient . Hotel location is so great and if you would like to see a good sunset is just there ! Also you can grab a nice coffee just across the street and enjoy a lovely walk along the promenade.. I will be back.

My friend and I such a lovely afternoon tea here today. Couldn’t get in the main door but sent round the corner and wondering what we’d let ourselves in for. However, as soon as we stepped into the Victory Lounge we were really impressed. Beautifully laid tables and fresh flowers. The member of staff who took care of us could not have been more attentive and helpful. We had a special Groupon deal and it was amazingly good value. Sandwiches were fresh and very tasty. The scone, mini Victoria sponge, choux bun and a meringue were delicious too. We did have to ask for another pot of jam and some more cream but this was provided. Had a huge pot of tea too which was topped up. We were the only people there which was a shame as it really was a fantastic experience and one I’d thoroughly recommend.
