I'm really not the most experienced traveller or tourist, so you can take this with a grain of salt if you like. But this was far-and-away the best place I've stayed at in my travels so far. The Room: My partner and I were staying in the "executive suite". It was spacious, comfortable, and well-lit - it had recently been renovated. It had a splendid view of the grounds and the forest beyond. The website rightly identified that there's not much water pressure in the shower, but we found it more than enough for our purposes. AC worked well, but during our stay we found the ceiling fans were often more than adequate. The Grounds: Beautiful and well-maintained. The owners and staff should be proud of the standard they've maintained. Flowers and trees well tended-to, pool is clean and a nice temperature though we didn't make much use to it. As an avid birdwatcher, the lane is great to stroll; there are trails running through the jungle below the resort; and there are a number of scenic viewpoints overlooking a gorge running below the resort (especially beautiful and sunup and sundown!) The Restaurant/Bar: Food was delicious! Breakfasts are standard continental breakfast fare - they are flexible dinners are usually limited to a choice of one of a couple of options, but whatever we ordered was tasty and reasonably-priced. You can also order off a larger menu when the restaurant is open for lunch. As for drinks, the owners are pretty good mixologists as well! The restaurant itself is open-air, with a great view of the pool and hills beyond. Fortunately, there were virtually no biting insects at any point of our stay. The Location: I wasn't able to rent a 4WD/AWD on arrival in Belize, and I *did* get stuck on the incline on the road in - put it up to my inexperience with steep grades! Road condition was fine, though, and after that first hiccup I didn't have any issues driving the roadway. This place would be a bit isolated if you didn't have your own vehicle, but there are a number of restaurants and points-of-interest within a short drive of the resort - just ask the owners and they'll be happy offer suggestions. On the whole, it is a tranquil location - very easy to get a good long sleep! The Owners/Staff: Well, if people are the true measure of a place, Gumbo Limbo couldn't be in better hands. Jay and Christine were true treasures - and I'm not just saying that as a biased fellow-countryman! (We're all Canadians) Extremely hospitable and accommodating, always there with suggestions for activities or just to offer interesting conversation. Christine knew her birds as well, which is always nice! The atmosphere was always cozy up at the restaurant. The other staff were always friendly as well, and the dogs - well, we loved all three of them!

Jay and Christine are wonderful hosts and the property is amazing. Christine had breakfast ready for us in the open air dining area every morning, and was a font of local knowledge. Jay was great, friendly and keeps a great bar. The staff made us a really nice dinner the one night we opted to eat there and were very open to accommodating our dietary preferences (vegan and vegetarian) The dogs greeted us every morning at breakfast which was perfect for our family. If you drive yourselves be aware that the driveway to the property, while better than many Belizian roads still requires that you pay attention.

This property and our stay exceeded our expectations. If you want somewhere a little off the beaten path, with a beautiful environment, wonderful accommodations and some privacy this is the place to book. It is off the road and in a beautiful area of the jungle. There are only five cabins surrounding an open area and you have the upmost of privacy and quiet. There is a beautiful pool and quiet deck. The owners are present, friendly, helpful and super nice. We had breakfast there daily (continental and included) and ate dinner there each night too which was home cooked and wonderful. I would highly recommend this property for couples, families or a solo traveler.

This is absolutely an idyllic place to stay, we left feeling like family. It's beautiful and so small that all the guests get quite friendly as well. They have many resources and can set up anything you need, and the food and drinks are delicious. You should have a car to stay here as it's a little bit out of Georgeville and a little further from San Ignacio, but I can't imagine staying in town versus this lovely friendly place. The pool is a welcome addition for a dip at the end of the day!

We had a wonderful stay! Christine and Jay were so kind and helpful. We enjoyed an evening looking at the stars with them. Food and drinks were fantastic! This is a very peaceful place to take in the jungle views and enjoy the sky. Would return to stay here without a second thought.

Spent a week doing a number of Belizian adventures. Used Gumbo as home base. Jay and Christine treated us like we were family. Helped make arrangements for a bunch of excursions. Tikal, Barton Creek, Zipline, Cave Tubing, Xunantunich... Rooms had plenty of space for our family of 4. Air Conditioned!!! Great food too!

Excellent hosts! We arrived late in the evening for a 1-nught stay. The property was clean, the bedroims were clean and the beds were very comfortable. As nice as the property was, the real treat was the hosts. They were exceptionally friendly, kind, and hospitable. The banana bread and fruit for breakfast was delicious! We will definitely be back!
