Hotel Zima

What I like from this hotel is the nearest from downtown.

They did not answer the phone all day. So I was not able to cancel going there.

I stayed here, as a solo female traveler, because my previous accommodations didn't work for me anymore. The front desk staff were quick to help and figure out a solution for me. I ended staying for about two weeks, and during my time here, I felt very welcomed and comfortable. The restaurant staff were friendly and easy to talk to. The food was great, the room was comfortable, there was hot water and a laundry service. I didn't have any issues at all. Would definitely recommend Zima to everyone.

We had a brief one night stay on our way to Sn Jose - we had changed our reservation by a day as our plans evolved and had confirmation from ******* but when we arrived the hotel hadn’t updated the date - but , Jesus at reception assured us it was no problem and we had a a room , but it was prepared for one person , not two , so we had to ask for the extra this and that for the two of us . But - all of the staff , Jesus in particular were just so wonderful, the restaurant staff as well , always smiling , nothing was a problem , so in the end after a bumpy start we had a great stay The hotel does need a little attention some details , but again , we had a great stay

I felt safe at the hotel but the area outside of the walls seemed a little scary. We were surprised the room did not have a safe. We had to carry our valuables with us on our day trips. But the staff were so sweet and even gave us advice on what to see and their advice was very good. The food at the restaurant is also very good.

1. Finding the hotel isn’t very easy since there is no sign on HWY 2. First find the McDonalds. Then look up the street and see a rectangular whitish sign that says “Baterias” or something similar for a battery repair place on the right. Hotel ZIMA is down a small street beside that sign. 2. The front desk is open-air, and you can’t miss it. There is just enough parking for the hotel, no more. FYI, it would be nearly impossible to bring a guest from a bar, etc. to your room without being noticed by someone at the front desk since you have to walk by it (there is only one way in). I was told that they close the only gate late at night, so if you are going to be returning after, say, 2 AM you might want to discuss it with the desk personnel first. 3. The personnel (Jesus and Adrian) were very friendly, professional and helpful, and didn’t seem to have their hands out for tips (though they did graciously accept tips when I offered). I was told that they can’t exchange Dollars for Colones, at least no more than about $20 worth, at the reception desk. The nearest ATM is at the bank beside Central Park. Adrian helped me reprogram the air conditioner remote after I dropped it, and Jesus helped me set up a new SIM card for my phone since I do not speak Spanish. Jesus also had my sink repaired when it started leaking. They did not seem to have any day trips available that they could schedule for me at the desk; I had to schedule my day trips myself after driving to Playa Dominical each time I wanted to do something. 4. The grounds were nearly immaculate and well-tended. The atmosphere was what I would call Costa Rica Zen-influenced. The pool looked very clean, though it is smaller than the ads make it look like it is. There was a pool guy thee three days in a row who seemed to be trying to get the chemistry just right. I never swam in it though since I was driving to the beach each day to swim in the ocean. 5. They have bird feeders which they keep stocked with bananas. I saw more colorful birds at their feeders than I did on my trips to Corcovado National Park and Los Cusingos Reserve. On one occasion there was a flock of parrots in the tree adjacent to the reception desk. 6. The room itself was overall clean and large. The floor, just like the walls, however seemed thin. It felt squishy under my feet as if it was only thin plywood and a single layer of thin laminate flooring. The flooring was new, though. There was no bathtub in my room, but the shower stall was quite large with a nice rain-shower shower head. Alas, there was little to no hot water. I had time to say “Ahhhh” once before the heat tapered off to lukewarm for the rest of the shower. This never varied no matter when I took my shower. The bed was a mattress on slats. The slats had boards nailed to them to hold them level off the floor. No box spring. It seemed to need a couple more slats, also. Two small squarish couch-type pillows were provided in addition to the two white bed pillows. On

My buddy and I had a one-night stopover in San Isidro and chose the Zima. The hotel is located off a quiet street well away from the main highway so it was very quiet. The reception staff were pleasant and efficient. The grounds and the pool are attractive and kept tidy and clean. The breakfast service was somewhat limited but the meal itself was very well prepared and very tasty. Service was excellent. Our room was average for the price. It was very clean and the two beds were comfortable. The A/C functioned well. The shower uses an electric heater which some find scary but i just found a tad slow to heat. We were short a couple of towels but when we asked, they were quickly provided. TV had multiple spanish language channels and CNN. But that seems to be the norm throughout Costa Rica. We had room 21 and my main complaint is that it was very dark. The one window provides very little light into the L-shaped room. This was Ok for one night but would be an issue for a multi-night stay. There are not a lot of spots in San Isidro but the Zima is probably one of the better choices for a short stay.

This hotel is located within walking distance of everything in downtown San Isidro but it is quiet. The parking is adequate & the room updated. The breakfast was excellent & we will look forward to trying dinner next time we stay there. There is wifi in the room but it is not very good. The staff was very nice.

Make sure you ask for a room away from main road as otherwise you won't sleep and you can't open the window as there's a running drain outside that smells, so you wont want to open the curtains either as the view of a tatty yard is not nice. Had to use air con all night to drown out the sound of huge trucks and their hissing , whining brakes. Consequently I developed loss of voice and lung problem from the bacteria. Bed was comfy, big bathroom that smelt of drains. All in all an unpleasant experience , as I explained at reception when we left. Nice staff and restaurant good enough. Sweet pool. We just had the worst room I think.
