Wongai Beach Hotel

Me and a few friends stayed in March this year and really enjoyed our time, we only stayed the night as we had to continue the tour of Torres Strait the next morning. But the rooms are in immaculate condition, staff are super friendly and the manager (Kylie) was extremely nice and helpful! 10/10 stay!!

Amazing trip to Horn Island after travelling through the north of QLD. The Wongai is a lovely hotel/pub with good amenities and even a pool. Staff are very friendly and the food was excellent! Transfers were easy to arrange. Will be returning in the near future.

I have stayed at this property multiple times over the past few years when working within the Torres Strait. The staff are excellent and always accommodating. The accommodation itself is comfortable and always very clean. There is always a continental breakfast in the fridge, the pool is lovely and the bar is a huge plus. The Wongai also serve awesome food for lunch and dinner out of their onsite restaurant. I would absolutely recommend the Wongai for anyone visiting the Torres Strait or transiting through Horn Island. The Wongai is the gateway to the Torres Strait!

Friendly and very helpful staff. Clean unit with traditional Wongai ready in fridge. Was picked up from airport with staffs-members private car as phone lines were down. Nice food in restaurant. Pool looking very inviting but it was raining and I needed to go to bed after a long travel day.

The staff were excellent, especially Kylie. Good restaurant and short walk to shops and transport.

Didn't want to leave - such a magical part of Australia everyone needs to experience. Local Saying goes - If you eat the local Wongai Plum, you will always return, so I did. Hope its true cause I had such a peaceful escape. Locals and staff are super friendly, great beaches to explore and best fishing ever off the jetty. Highly recommend

The hosts of the property were so warm, and welcoming. I was personally shown my room by the manager, even though the receptionist was pointing it out on the hotel map. He picked my luggage up and smiled so big. Although there was a miscommunication in where to pick me up, they went to the airport and I was on the wharf. (Someone else made the call)... it was all under the bridge, and they were not upset by it, but greeted me as though they were meeting a friend they had not seen in a long time. It was quite nice after some of the hotel stays I had gone to... yes, a room, but indifferent reception. Also, when it was time for me to leave, the hotel gave me a lift to the airport. They made sure I got to where I needed to go. It is a place which goes above and beyond the norm, and has a beautiful pool to swim in, delicious food, free wi-fi, big screen TV's, clean, well appointed rooms with breakfast in the fridge, and just a few steps from shopping, and watching the sunset from the wharf. I was lucky to get an amazing room with a view of the water and the boats, it was magical. The water up there is so gorgeous, the perfect aqua color of your dreams (or at least mine). I loved the culture and history museum of the Torres Straight people located at The Gateway Hotel, again just a few steps away from Wongai Hotel. They have a big beer garden, and bar, as well as a separate dining room, and separate Pokies room. There are green gardens. It is safe (cameras and tall fence) and clean
