This YHA is in the most fabulous location, right by the abbey at the top of the 199 steps. It’s a bit spooky getting to and from in the dark but I quite liked that. In the day time there are fab views over whitby. The outside of the building is spectacular, the inside not quite so much. The double height landing with stained glass windows and the staircase is stunning but there’s quite a bit of the place could do with a bit of TLC. The dorm I was in was perfectly fine and even had an en suite loo, the shower was just next door (I think I might have been in the best positioned dorm as I didn’t see many other shower rooms as I was looking round the building). The bed was clean and comfy. There was very little storage in the rooms though. When I arrived the guy on reception was very friendly and helpful, he was when I came back in later too. It was a bit disappointing that the bar was shut at 9pm on a Friday night. I didn’t get chance to give the cafe a try so can’t comment on that. I managed to park my car in the little carpark outside, there aren’t too many spaces though, I think I got the last one. Other than the small points mentioned above, this is a great place to stay in Whitby and I would stay again.
