Historic Cary House Hotel

I absolutely LOVED the area and the hotel was full of history and charm! It was great to walk out in the morning and head over to local coffee shops. The old-style elevator was awesome and the grand staircases were wonderful. The room was average, but large. The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean and working. I was located in a corner room that faced the main street, diagonally across from the bar. This is probably the worst room you could be in. The live music went right through the walls, the buildings made simple conversations outside the bar echo, and once it closed at 2am you have the drunks yelling. I didn't sleep the first or last night. Earplugs were useless. I had to plug headphones into my computer and put on music so just to drown out the noise. When I arrived for check-in no one was at the desk and there was a sign that they were assisting another matter and would be back shortly. The janitor ended up coming down, seeing me at the desk, and calling for help. The sign provided a phone number for immediate assistance but I assumed they would be right back.... This was the case most of the time.. a sign at the desk so I couldn't ask to switch rooms. So when in doubt, call the number because they won't be right back. Next time I am in the area, unfortunately, I will be finding a quieter place to stay.

If you want to feel like you are a part of history in old town Placerville this is the place to stay. Very clean and comfortable and a good price. Walk to all the stores bars etc. We had a great stay...would stay there again.

Blinds in the room were missing the cord to pull them up. One blind was stuck half way down and needed the window blocked with a sofa cushion for privacy. Bathtub was missing non-skid surface, somewhat dangerous. Coffee pot was missing from the coffee maker. When the Placerville bars close it's a little noisy around 1 - 2am. Some lights missing in parking area behind the building.

The hotel has 39 rooms andxwe were given the room across the hall from the 150 year old elevator, which passed by very frequently. The front desk was run by teenagers who disappeared in the evening the minute the last guest was checked in. There was no customer service. However the housekeeper was awesome. She helped us with several issues that we would normally expect the front desk to

It was like stepping back in time. The historical feeling of the building and surrounding area was fascinating. Expect an old building with dated fixtures and furnishings. This is not a Marriott or Hilton. Charming for being what it is. Will stay again.

The lobby is incredible with antique furnishings and stained glass windows. The room was styled in antique furniture and pictures. It’s lovely, however the floor was really slanted. The walls are thin so we heard people walking above us and people in the adjacent room showering. We were right next to the alley and heard commotion all night.

Wonderful stay because of the location. However, room Superior King Suite is advertised as sleeps 4. It sleeps two and you can request rollaway twin spring beds. Disappointing as it cramped the space as we had 3 adults and 1 kid... The only dampener on our 2 day get away.

The room was very nice. The separate bedroom was a nice feature. It also had a kitchenette with two burner stove. I wish it also included a microwave. The seating chairs were a little uncomfortable. The bed was nice and comfy.

Unique old time furnishings and ambiance. Size of rooms were great. No fault of facility, but bathrooms very small, but that is the way it was in the time period the hotel was built. Also very quiet.
